Yay for boredom!
Sometimes stupid things we do are so stupid that become awesome. We, human, do a lot of especially stupid things when we are bored. [That's how "Spin the bottle" and "Bungee jumping" were born!]
When you mix "boredom," "stupidity" and "Internet," you get: Planking

Well, this fad went viral, and we all know when mass-stupidity gets to work, it takes a anything to something beyond stupid...
I don't know if there is a word for it... insane? idiotic? death?

On 15 May 2011, Acton Beale, a 20-year-old male, plunged to his death after reportedly "planking" on a seventh-floor balcony in Brisbane, Australia. This is the first known casualty of the planking fad.
